    Rachel Monroe is a contributing writer for The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Esquire and The New York Times. In 2022 she led the BBC podcast series about missing marine observers entitled, “Lost at Sea.” Rachel follows Keith Davis' investigation and traces new clues from Panama to Texas to DC.

    Senior Ocean Campaign Leader

    Lagi Toribau is a Pacific islander, and a veteran ocean conservation activist (ex-Greenpeace Senior Oceans Campaign Leader) and lead marine investigator for these murders. He returned to Fiji to explore Eritara Aati Kaierua's case, meeting with his family  who indicated he knew he was in danger. 

  • TIM MCKINNEL

    Crime Team Lead Investigator

    Tim McKinnel is a former police detective and investigator based in New Zealand. He has led marine crime investigations globally. He is the host of TVNZ’s documentary, “Crime: Need vs. Greed.” Tim is our key guide in Spain and James Numbaru’s case.

  • Richard Nyarko

    Investigative Reporter  

    Richard Nyarko is a senior broadcast correspondent and investigative reporter working in Accra, Ghana. He specializes in topics related to illegal fishing and vessel crew welfare. He investigated the cases of two missing fisheries observers in Ghana, Emmanuel Essien and Samuel Abayateye.

  • CAROLE TOMKO

    Executive Producer 

    Tomko is a recognized global media executive producing award winning content. She has launched and led networks, studios, philanthropic and content ventures. She serves as executive producer on premium series and feature documentaries with the goal of driving awareness and impact around critical issues of our time. The body of her work represents a wide range of projects that have won industry awards including Oscar nominations and an Emmy for Body Team 12.

  • Mark Benjamin

    Director / Executive Producer 

    Benjamin has been an award winning filmmaker for decades, serving as a photo journalist then a combat cameraman for NBC News in the 1970s. He founded Brick City TV and his films and series have been awarded the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, the Camera d'Or at Cannes, multiple DuPont-Columbia Awards and EMMYs. He was honored for Best Series at Jackson Wild for "OCEAN WARRIORS" and his seminal "CHASING THE THUNDER” has screened globally. He produced the last Bill Moyers film for PBS, “RIKERS”, which won the RFK Advocacy Journalism Award. He is best known for his Peabody Award winning series "Brick City”. 

  • KATIE CARPENTER

    Producer / Director

    Carpenter is an influential documentary filmmaker specializing in environmental subjects for television. She was on the producing team for the six- hour series "OCEAN WARRIORS" and the feature documentary "CHASING THE THUNDER” covering the crusade to curtail legal fishing around the world. Carpenter produced three National Geographic specials, "Battle for the Elephants*, "Warlords of Ivory" and "Bones of Turkana", as well as the Emmy- nominated documentary "A Year On Earth" for Discovery.

    Principal Investigator, Sea Around Us

    Daniel Pauly is a world renowned fisheries scientist and a co-recipient of the 2023 Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement. He currently leads the Sea Around Us Initiative at the University of British Columbia’s Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries. His global, multi-year analyses of fisheries catches have allowed him to reach startling and important conclusions – most critical among them that fish populations are declining rapidly all over the world.

  • Mark Spalding

    Director, The Ocean Foundation

    Mark J. Spalding is the President of The Ocean Foundation and is an authority on international ocean policy and law. He is the former Director of the Environmental Law and Civil Society Program, and Editor of the Journal of Environment and Development, at the Graduate School of International Relations & Pacific Studies, UC-San Diego. Spalding has also taught at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD's Muir College, UC Berkeley's Goldman School of Public Policy, and University of San Diego's School of Law.
